Just remember, the face paint came from this morning - but it needed touching up after a nap. The scary thing is, I had to borrow Mike's (carnival) lipstick !!! It's a worry when you have to go rummaging through your husband's makeup bag !!!
Juliette got the go-ahead for "eating like us" at her one year's checkup so since then, she's been tasting various new things. Roughly chopped up cheese went down well (she likes babybel and Laughing Cow cheese, even if it is a bit cold to start with !) and above all, she didn't choke or swallow the bits whole, so she got the chance to eat some treats this weekend. Here's her first taste of pain au chocolat :

After winning a cool Strawberry Shortcake annual by sending in a photo-report of making Christmas crackers (and it's still online, even if it's totally out of season now !!! http://kidplanete.infobebes.com/htm/article/article.asp?id_article=1339 but I think you have to be signed up as a member to access the page), this time it's a Papa Penguin CD (never heard of it !) to be won for sending in a photo-recipe. So this afternoon, we made a banana bread and took photos at various stages. I won't bore you with the recipe photos, but you can see the pics I took of Sophie and the one she took of me !!!
Those naughty scissor fairies have been wreaking havoc again - last week when I was doing Sophie plats for school, I kept noticing that one side was a couple of inches shorter than the other. I thought it was me, doing one side tighter than the other, or Sophie wriggling too much, but it looks like she's been playing hairdressers again ! So I decided to even the sides up ... and ended up chopping quite a lot off. I didn't actually mean to go that short but it looks quite cool actually ... and it looks like she's inherited my hair (it's so thick, I had to cut it in several layers !!!) so it'll grow back really quickly.

People in France were on strike today over new young people's work contracts that have been drawn up that are seen as unfair - it started off with the students then, as usual, different sectors got involved, including public transport. I phoned up the bus company last night to see if Dunkirk was concerned and they said yes, there would be some form of strike but there would still be a reduced bus service running.
Got up this morning, dropped off the kids at the childminder's, went to the bus stop, bumped into a couple who'd been wiating for ages and hadn't seen a single bus go by. Phoned the bus company again ... nope, no buses at all today !!!
I have done the 45-minute each way walk in to work in the past but I hadn't left myself enough time (and today is my long day so I didn't fancy the prospect of a 45 min walk back home at 6pm) so I "went on strike" too !
I'll lose a day's pay but the huge grin on Sophie's face when I unexpectedly picked her up at school instead of the childminder was well worth that ! She skipped all the way home !!! (Via the park ... where we both went down the slide and got a wet bum !!!)
