Growing up fast !

General — Posted by cheryl @ 21:11

Sophie's been complaining of having toothache since I've been back. I kept looking but couldn't see anything at all but when I looked today, her bottom front tooth is wobbly ! So she'll be losing her first tooth soon - times flies !!

And not one to be left behind, Juliette has decided to suddenly start talking a lot more - mainly replying "yep" to everything (with a few "yep - no no no"s thrown in for good measure when she changes her mind !!) She even said okey dokey yesterday which cracked me up - I can't blame it on anyone else when she comes out with things in English !!! She's started asking for her big bed but I gave it a go at naptime and she still won't stay in it. That's fine by me, I don't want them both growing up too fast !!

Made it back without losing anyone !!!

General — Posted by cheryl @ 20:56

Well the school trip to London went pretty much without a hitch - the only slight downer at the end was a girl realising she'd lost her mp3 player minutes before arriving in Dunkirk. The strange thing is, she's sure she lost it (ie someone stole it) when she left her bag on the coach in the tunnel, but I was on the coach the whole time with the driver and we were stopping every single kid who got on for a chewing gum check so I was looking right over by where her bag was anyway. With a bit of luck, she'll have found it in her luggage over the weekend.

Anyway, apart from that, a great time was had by all. The programme was pretty hectic. We left at 6.30am on Wednesday morning, arrived in London around 10.30, picked up our guide for a coach tour around London to see the sights. (I'd never seen the London Eye, the "gherkin" or the "crash helmet" - Ken Livingstone's town hall - so I was learning things too ! ) We finished off on foot to see Buckingham Palace and Horse Guards and have picnic lunch in St James's Park. Then it was back to the coach and off to the Museum of London. At 6.30 we headed off to meet the host families. Ten minutes of chaos ensued because the UK coordinator's list didn't match ours (someone forgot to send on a fax to say one of the families was on holiday) and some of the families had been switched around - not too much of a problem in itself, but the families on the French side all had the phone numbers for the original familes ... and some of the parents got VERY stressed when they rang and couldn't speak to their kids ! Managed to iron it all out and had a roast chicken dinner with our host family then off to bed.

Next day, gorgeous sunshine again. In the morning, the Tower of London. In the afternoon, shopping at covent garden - I legged it down to Boots to use up my pigsback vouchers !!! Back to the families for spaghetti bolognese and no stressed parents on the phone this time !

Final day, Friday we headed back to Parliament Square for a quick photo shoot and got a boat down to Greenwich - even got a little bit sunburnt !!! At Greenwich, picnic lunch (my first job on the coach every morning was sandwich filling identification !!!) then the maritime museum and up the hill to the Observatory. Back on the coach, off to the tunnel and had a manic 20-minute shopping session at Sainsbury's at Ashford. Which means ten minutes shopping and ten minutes queueing but I still managed to get two big bags of bacon, sausages, swede, parsnips, meatballs, cheese sauce, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, mr men cake mix, dora cake mix, party rings, smiley face biscuits, magazines, gravy granules, ... !!! On to the tunnel and back home at 9.45pm as planned. Where Juliette slept soundly through to the next morning but Sophie woke up and got all excited because Mummy was home !!! Just as well it was the weekend straight afterwards !!!

I think Juliette's going girly-girly on me !

General — Posted by cheryl @ 17:57

She never normally lets me go anywhere near her hair but she came and asked me to put bunches in her hair the other day !! Had to get the photos quickly though because she pulled it out after two minutes !!

Very punky !!!

Speaking of hair, after nearly a weel of lying on the settee and not having her hair brushed, Sophie's hair was very tangly and she was getting grotty about me brushing it - so I gave her her annual shear and she now has hair just below her shoulders. Photos to follow but it looks quite good, even if I say so myself !

Feeling yucky but still smiling !

Sophie's the perfect patient

and she decided to use my long coat as a big sleeping bag too !

She's feeling ok now though, apart from a runny nose and a nasty cough

Nice and squeezy does it !

General — Posted by cheryl @ 17:51

Not sure who likes using the electric juicer the most, me or Sophie !!!

(PS Don't let Mike see Sophie with no shoes on or I'll get the blame for her being ill last week !!!)

I love my big sis THIS much !!!

The things you do to win a competition !!!

General — Posted by cheryl @ 17:37

Here's the picture you've all already seen if you've been voting for Sophie :

But here's the one you didn't see !!!

After all that, we'd better win at least a Tshirt !!!

PS I knew there had to be a use for those old chewed-up-by-the-dog glasses !!!

So what did you get up to last night ?! (oo-er missus !!)

General — Posted by cheryl @ 17:27

Mike was out at a carnival ball last night (the dirty old stopout rolled in at 7.30am this morning after they all went for the traditional French onion soup in a latenight cafe at the end of the ball at 5.30am - me and Sophie got up at 8.30 and I managed to keep her quiet(ish) until 11.30 when he finally surfaced so now he's upstairs having a snooze !!). So I was home alone. What did I get up to ?

Watched the lunar eclipse, went hunting for freebies, entered about a million competitions and found out two things I didn't know - Level 42 are back together and making a new album !! ( http://www.50connect.co.uk/index.asp?main=http%3A//www.50connect.co.uk/50c/articlepages/entertainment_index.asp%3Fsc%3Dmusic%26aID%3D14627 - there's a blast from the past !!!) and Derek Acorah got kicked off Most Haunted because he got caught out cheating ( http://badpsychics.com/thefraudfiles/modules/news/article.php?storyid=33 ) ... as did Yvette Fielding ( http://badpsychics.com/thefraudfiles/modules/news/article.php?storyid=45 ) which is quite funny really !!! I still think it's a great programme for comedy and entertainment value and poor old Derek probably got told he had to make the shows exciting and get possessed at least twice a show if there was no paranormal activity !!!

The dark side of the moon !

General — Posted by cheryl @ 17:20

Did you see the lunar eclipse last night ? It wasn't as spectacular as a solar eclipse but basically, the whole moon (which was really bright and white just before it started) was "eaten up" by shadow then glowed dim and red for a while ... then it was all over !

Might as well be toe nail clippings on a black tablecloth !!!

02 Mar, 2007

Audience participation time again !!!

General — Posted by cheryl @ 09:51

I've entered another voting competition and need your help again ! Every day, you can vote once for secret agent Sophie here ! -

http://www.cherubcampus.fr/fr/detail/mission-60-on-dirait-quelle-ne-voit-rien.html

There are 79 prizes so the odds of winning something are pretty good, but the last ones only get a silicone bracelet - still, it's better than a kick up the bum !!

For the other voting competitions I got you to help with, Sophie won a watch in the "draw my teacher" one but Mike just missed out on the glam your man - there are 3 finalists a month and he was 4th. I could have tipped him over the edge if I'd been at work but it wasn't to be !! Never mind, thanks for all the clicks anyway !! Still no news on Charlie the rabbit so we'll have to wait and see, I should find out in the next couple of days !

Feeling fluey and pooey

General — Posted by cheryl @ 09:44

Well the first week of school holidays is drawing to a close and we've done absolutely nothing - for the first half of the week, Sophie was poorly and spent most of the time snoozing on the settee in front of a dvd (most unlike her). Yesterday I got the same thing and spent most of the day in bed with Sophie looking after me !!

The scary part is, there are some nasty bugs about at the moment. One of Mike's workmates is off sick for a week with "grippe meningée" which translates up as something like meningococcal flu - she had all the usual flu symptoms and her heart was beating very very fast. Also an online friend in Calais had a nightmare last weekend because her little boy, who is a couple of months younger than Juliette, was happily playing on the floor then he started convulsing. He spent four days in hospital because they couldn't get his temperature down and they think the convulsions were due to the fever (but she says he didn't have any fever before having the fit) - they did a lumber puncture to rule out meningitis too.

The good news is, due to all the enforced staying in, I've been entering loads of competitions online - so far this week, I've won a Samsonite excursion bag and a relaxation kit (with loads of lethal looking loofahs, files and brushes !) Every cloud has a silver lining !!!
